چکیده

Cu-Al-Ni single crystals with composition 82.6Cu-13.4A1-4Ni (wt%) were heat treated at 800°C for 30 rnin and subsequently water quenched to room temperature. The samples with 3 mm diameter and length between 100 and 200 mm had a longitudinal orientation close to the [001] direction of the P-phase at high temperature. The martensite start temperature after the initial heat treatment was MS=93"C. Training was performed by loading the sample above Af, followed by cooling undcr constant load. After removal of the load the sample was heated to recover its original shape. Repeating this cycle several times introduces the two-way memory effect. Several strains involved in the process were measured. It was found that a large residual deformation (RD) persisted after cycling between the training temperatures. Most of this residual deformation was recovered by overheating the sample. The non recoverable residual strain was observed to increase with increasing load. From the overheating experiments and differential scanning calorimetry measurements, it becomes evident that the total residual deformation is due to two contributions: the stabilisation of martensite and a plastic deformation.

Stability of γ1’ Martensite in Cu-Base Alloys

The analysis of the nonequilibrium cr T diagrams constructed from the results oftension/cornpression thermornechanical tests with [001] Cu-based shape memory alloy/SMA/ single crystals was found to be a good way how to understand complex path dependent phenomena exhibited by SMA single crystals. Particularly, it has been shown that the yi martensite phase forming in Cu-based SMA may exist in mu...

Theory and Computation for the Microstructure Near the Interface Between Twinned Layers and a Pure Variant of Martensite

We report results on a nite element simulation of a needle-like martensitic microstructure observed in biaxial loading experiments conducted by Chu and James on single crystals of the shape-memory alloy Cu-14at.%Al-3:9at.%Ni. This microstructure was observed near an interface between twinned layers of two variants and a pure variant of martensite. We used a geometrically nonlinear theory of mar...

Positron Dopplerbroadening Measurements in Cu-Al-Ni Based Shape Memory Alloys

Positron annihilation Dopplerbroadening measurements were carried out on Cu-Al-Ni based alloys to which Ti, and Ti and Mn was added. The measurements reveal a drastic effect in the S-parameter behavior when the defects anneal out at the transition from martensite to the beta phase. When crossing the transition region several times, an increase of the S-parameter value is observed. This is inter...
